Improving Your Golf With Proper Aim

I have been playing Golf for more than 35 years now. I have tried so many methods of that carry the promise of improving your Golf that I have lost count. Over the years, I have found that some of the simpler things can make the biggest difference in your game.

The Golf swing is a complicated athletic move. There are so many points where it can break down and cause bad shots that you can not possibly concentrate on them all. Keep you head still, don't look up, keep your left arm straight on so on. How can you possibly keep at that in your mind and try to aim the ball at the target? Well, it is not so easy, but getting a few things out of the way to start with can free you up to help your swing and really help in improving your Golf.

One of the simplest tips that I have ever been taught had the most impact on my game. I read it somewhere in a Golf Magazine or Golf Digest years ago. The idea is to take the aiming of the ball out of the mix and concentrate on the swing.

I first tried this with my driver as I had always had issues with proper alignment. Very simply, I tee the ball up and then get behind the ball about 5-7 feet and visually line up where I want the ball flight path to start. I then pick out a blade of grass, divot, or some other slight imperfection that I can keep my eye on that is about 12"-18" in front of the ball that is exactly the direction that I want the ball to go. I then keep the "point" in my site as I address the ball. I make sure that I am set properly and that my clubhead is square with the intended ball path. It is easy to align because you are just aligning with a point that is only a foot or so in front of the ball. I honestly never look down the fairway after that point...I have made my alignment and I can be confident in it. From that point on, I can concentrate on a good take-away and smooth swing. This method can be used on all shots...even putts. See...I told you it was simple. However I found it to be one of the best simple tips that really will help you in improving your Golf.

One other great tip that my dad taught me very early on. Two things that you should never buy new...cars and Golf clubs. Both can be found slightly used and usually factory certified and can save you a ton of money.
