Gain 10 Yards On Your NEXT Tee Shot?

Do you know the difference between the SWEET SPOT and HOT SPOT?

Neither do most Golfersso dont worry about itI will explain it all for you in this article.

With the evolution of bigger and bigger driver heads, there has been an unusual phenomenon going on in regards to the area on the head that provides the most distance off the tee. In years past testing proved that hitting the ball in the SWEET SPOT delivered the best feel, distance and accuracy. Though with heads in excess of 400cc the area of impact is so much larger then in the past that a new dynamic takes place. This dynamic has to do with a feature called Bulge and Roll.

BULGE AND ROLL
This is the amount the head rolls on its vertical axis and horizontal axis. (See Picture To Left). Simply putheads arent flat, they have a slight bulge to them for gear effect.

GEAR EFFECT
Helps reverse imperfections in your swing. For example, if you hit it off the toe the gear effect will turn the ball back in for a draw, and reverse the slice created by hitting off the toe.

RESULT
If it were a 250cc head the impact of the roll would not be as significant. Though with a 400+cc head the roll surface is larger. This is when the gear effect comes in. Typically this would result in a higher spin rate. But this gear effect reduces spin.

HIGHER LAUNCH ANGLE WITH REDUCED SPIN = MORE DISTANCE

The gain in yardage varies depending on swing speeds but for the majority of recreational Golfers with swings speeds of around 90 mph for a driver will reduce spin by more then 500 rpms. This will result in five or even 10 more yards, depending on course conditions and the type of ball you are playing.

How do you know when you have hit the HOT SPOT? It will have a slightly clunky feel but you will notice that you are 10 yards farther. You do however want to catch the ball with an ascending blow. If you cannot achieve this type of swing then you might be best off hitting the old SWEET SPOT.
